Our Heritage

West Side Baptist Church of Billings began in 1963 in a store front at 514 4th Street West under the leadership of Pastor Ron Storz. In July 1964, the congregation secured a house at 2331 Lewis Avenue previously used by Lutheran congregation.

On Sunday, July 4, 1971, the church broke ground for a new building at that location. This project was completed with over four thousand hours of volunteer labor. The first service in this building was conducted by Pastor Ed Anderson on December 25, 1971.

In December 1977, the church purchased land at 32nd Street West and Monad Road. In September 1979, the church moved into its new building at this location. This facility, which includes ample parking on seven acres of land, provides room for the present and future needs of the congregation.

Lynn Howe has been the Senior Pastor since 1973, and has served in churches in Minnesota, California, Illinois, and Montana. Under his leadership, God has graciously grown and extended the church and its outreach at home and abroad.

In January of 1992, the Lord directed the Yellowstone Independent Bible Church to merge with West Side Baptist Church.

In April of 2003, the Church called Pastor Mel Gemmill to become a part of our leadership team at West Side. Mel brings a wealth of pastoral experience with over 30 years of leadership in churches in Montana and Minnesota.

In April of 2011, with an eye toward the future, the church called Jonathan Mauger to become its third member of the pastoral leadership team.
